Achieve 2022 Fitness Goals

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – Statistics show that year after year losing weight and exercising are some of the most common New Year’s resolutions. Many try, but lose their faith after a few weeks or months and give up. A local fitness trainer has a few tips for those who want to get in shape and make it last.

There are many local places that can help you achieve these goals, including the Barre Code Heritage Hills location in Grand Rapids.

“Whether it’s increasing your water intake, getting more movement, going for walks, going out,” said owner Stacie Thomas. “I always encourage people to set small, realistic goals so that they are achievable and you don’t set yourself up for failure.”

Thomas says she certainly sees an increase in interest in training around New Years, but it doesn’t always add up. She says some of the biggest mistakes people make by taking too much, too quickly, and exhausting themselves or losing interest.

“Definitely bring a friend who will always help you increase your longevity so that you can stay responsible but also love to have fun along the way,” Thomas said.

Going to the gym or just trying out a few moves at home, Thomas says it can be as easy as doing squats in your living room. Feel the burn and make sure you don’t exhaust yourself.

Staying organized and writing down your weekly goals can also help, from day one.

“Just let yourself begin. Sometimes that’s really the hardest part, ”Thomas said.

Tomas also recommends trying a few gyms until you find something you like, because if you’re not training in a fun way, you’re more likely to jump ship. Many gyms have great deals for new customers.
