American Legion baseball: Grand Rapids wins Legion baseball substate title – Reuters

DULUTH — Grand Rapids rebounded from a loss Friday in the American Legion Substate 10 Baseball Tournament to rout Duluth Lakeview 11-1 in Saturday afternoon’s five-inning championship game at Ordean Field.

The Post 60 Wolfpack had 10 hits in five innings to claim their second victory over the hosts in three days and win the eight-team tournament.

Grand Rapids got their offense going in the second inning, scoring their first two runs on a single, double, back-to-back RBI outfield pick of Caleb Gunderson and Klous Jones.

Rapids went the distance in the third inning, scoring four times after hitting seven straight. The Wolfpack tacked on a single run in the fourth inning and triggered the 10-run rule in the fifth inning with four more. A Kyler Miller single scored Nolan Svatos with the winning run.

For the Wolfpack, Dominic Broberg had a 3-on-4 game, drove in three runs and scored twice. Miller added two hits.

Easton Sjostrand pitched, allowing an earned run on three hits over five innings. He walked three and pulled out one.

For the Lakeview Tropics, Dylan Manchester, Isaac Lisi and Lukas Niska had one single each. Manchester took the loss, allowing six runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings.

Grand Rapids advances to the state tournament, starting Thursday at Ali-Magnet Fields in Burnsville.
