Could Michigan Football land an elite center in the transfer portal?
Michigan football isn’t too active on the transfer portal, but the Wolverines are pushing hard for Victor Oluwatimi, an All-American center.
The players want to play for Michigan football and head coach Jim Harbaugh right now and after the Wolverines’ best season in nearly two decades, UM is recruiting at a high level.
Michigan football just finished Class No.9 in the 2022 cycle, at least after the early signing day of 2021, but the Wolverines haven’t finished and that’s not just a reference to the period of late signing of 2022, although five-star Josh Conerly Jr. is still a big target.
The Wolverines are solidly in the mix and are its crystal ball leader, but Michigan football is also after one of the best transfers in 2022 and that is Virginia All-American center Victor Oluwatimi.
What Oluwatimi would bring to Michigan
Oluwatimi was not a high profile rookie, but Andrew Vastardis, the current Michigan center, was a replacement and he is close to signing a contract with the NFL this spring. But Oluwatimi is so wanted that Dabo Swinney, who is not a fan of the transfer portal, is all over him.
Tony Elliot, who was previously Clemson’s offensive coordinator and is now Virginia’s head coach, also works to keep Oluwatimi playing with the Cavaliers during their bowl game.
Oluwatimi entered the portal over a week ago, but is staying with his team during the playoffs and it allows the home team to change their mind.
Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider installed a transfer portal crystal ball earlier this week and it’s now two projecting Oluwatimi in Michigan football.
It makes sense. The Wolverines will have one of the best offensive lines in the country next season, even with a new starting cross and Oluwatimi could be the missing piece. It would also allow Zak Zinter to stay on guard instead of possibly moving to the center.
Webb and an insider from Virginia made the prediction and that’s when Oluwatimi was due to announce on Friday, a decision he delayed.
We’ll see if Webb’s crystal ball turns out to be true, but if it does, that would be a major addition for the Wolverines.
