Flint-area basketball highlights: Gavin Hart continues to start hot for undefeated Goodrich
FLINT – Maybe Goodrich’s boys’ basketball team won’t be missing as much as originally planned, Tyson Davis and Aidan Rubio.
Not with the way Gavin Hart plays at the start of the season.
Hart scored 21 points and picked up four rebounds on Tuesday to lead the Martians to a 71-55 victory over Kearsley. In two games, Hart is averaging 24 points per game.
Parker LePla added 15 points and eight assists for the Martians (2-0), Colton Leedom had 13 points and Jace Williams had eight points, five rebounds and two steals.
Kearsley (0-3) was led by Derrick Phipps with 14 points, Tyler Csintyan with 12 and Da’Kari Neely with nine.
Grand Blanc 77, Saginaw 54
The Bobcats, defending Division 1 state champions, tied their record at 1-1 behind 16 points for RJ Taylor. Amonte Allen-Johnson added 14 points and Trevon Johnson added nine. Karin McCue scored 14 to lead Saginaw (1-1).
Fenton 60, Owosso 25
Jadon Burnau scored a career-high 24 points for Fenton, who got 10 points from Sutton Miller and seven from Cooper Steeves. Fenton is 2-0. Owosso fell to 0-3.
Catholic Powers 69, Midland Dow 48
Joey Zaher led Powers with 18 points and Luke Mattar posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Isaac Sturgess added nine points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Chargers (1-2). Dow fell to 0-2.
Flushing 65, Ortonville Brandon 51
Ty Osborn scored 16 points and Brayden Jones added 12 for Flushing (3-0). The Raiders were triggered off on the defensive by LaRon Osborn. Brandon fell to 2-1.
Brighton 66, Lapeer 47
Brendan Pillar and Cole Bennett led Lapeer with 12 points each. The Lightning were leading 32-29 at halftime. The two teams are 2-1.
Flushing 54, Ortonville Brandon 15
Sarah Rambus scored 22 points for Flushing, who got nine rebounds and four assists from Lauren Brokaw. Maddie Burdis caught six rebounds and Olivia Groulx had four assists for the Raiders (2-1). Brandon fell to 1-2.
Grand Blanc 62, Saginaw 28
Chelsea Bishop scored 21 points, Jada McCree added 16 and Taylor Thompson grabbed 10 rebounds for the Bobcats (4-1).
Goodrich 70, Kearsley 23
The Martians took their record to 2-1 behind 16 points and six steals from Alex Kosmowski, 11 points and three steals from Riley Place and six points, 10 rebounds and four assists from Kalen Williams. Kearsley (0-4) was led by Kennedy Streeter with 13 points.
Midland Dow 84, Catholic Powers 41
Alexcis Parker led Powers with 13 points. Emily Bissett and Caroline Vance added 10 points each for the Chargers (2-1).
New Lothrop 54, Montrose 24
New Lothrop took a 16-2 lead after eight minutes on the road to hand Montrose their first loss in five games. Alexis Miller led New Lothrop with 12 points, Lily Bruff scored nine and Melissa Rombach took 11 rebounds. The new Lothrop is 3-1.
Imlay City 49, Armada 29
Mary Lengemann scored 17 points for Imlay City, who led 14-5 after the first quarter and 28-10 at halftime. Ana Lengemann added eight points to the Spartans (3-1).
Tilleul 52, A Coruña 39
Paige Leedle scored 22 points to lead Linden (3-1). Corunna (1-2) got a high of 27 points and seven rebounds from Sydnie Gillett.
Durand 38, Chesaning 32
Jordyn Lawrence sank 6 of 7 free throws in the fourth quarter to help Durand (3-1) put the game out of reach. She finished with 23 points. Jessica Winslow added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Railroaders. Ava Deveraux scored nine points for Chesaning (2-2).
Byron 42, Mont Morris 40
Byron tied his record at 2-2 behind a career-high 16 point Ashley Nixon. Reese Forgie added eight points for the Eagles while Nixon, Jordan Huhn and Joey Seigle each took eight rebounds. Huhn had six interceptions. Mt. Morris (1-3) was led by Ja’Nae Branch with 18 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
Genesee 57, Peck 30
Genesee led his three-game winning streak behind 22 points, 23 rebounds and three interceptions of junior Ryleigh Zinn. Senior Madison Knag added 18 points, eight steals and four assists for Wolves (3-1), Nadia Martinez had 11 points and five steals and Harleigh Bradley caught 10 rebounds. Peck fell to 0-5.
Owosso 42, Fenton 34
Skotti Ball-Duley scored a career-high 21 points and caught 11 rebounds for Owosso. Peyton Spicer added nine points and eight rebounds for the Trojans. The two teams are 1-2. Owosso trailed 11-6 after the first quarter before beating Fenton 10-0 in the second.
