WARNER ROBINS. Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — As temperatures rise across central Georgia, so does your energy bill. For many Flint Energies customers, they feel the heat of a high energy bill.

“Oh my god, it’s been awful, you know, it’s been about a month, it’s gone from 200 to almost 500, so it’s tough,” Dawn Endresen said.

Endresen is one of many Flint Energies customers looking for ways to reduce the amount of energy his family uses.

“We try to keep kids out and in, we put stuff on the windows.”

Flint Energies says it’s important to keep your thermostat on and remember to set it at 78 degrees. When you are not in a room, the lights should always be turned off.

“One benefit that I think is really important is using your ceiling fan, that ceiling fan will make you feel about 2 degrees cooler,” Rod Green said.

Green is the Energy Services Manager for Flint Energies. He says the biggest energy hog is your air conditioner and recommends cleaning it and changing the filter.

“Your filters are very important, it’s like the lungs of your system.”

He also recommends running your washer and dryer at night to conserve more energy.

Although the summer temperatures have arrived earlier than expected, Endresen says she wants other families to be prepared as well.

“Right now it’s going to skyrocket, it’s going to be really, really high and if it was me, like I said, I put stuff on the windows.”
