Nonprofit Acquires Lakeside Facility – Grand Rapids Business Journal

A local senior living organization recently acquired a lakeside assisted living facility.

Sunset Senior Communities on Tuesday, March 29, announced that it has added Christian Haven Home, at 704 Pennoyer Ave. in Grand Haven, to its portfolio of assisted living communities.

Christian Haven opened in 1961 and has since focused on providing high quality, Christ-centered care to seniors in Grand Haven.

Sunset said he plans to maintain the standard of care for Christian Haven and all existing employees.

“At Sunset, our expertise lies in the independent living, assisted living and memory care service lines,” said Christina Matzke, President and CEO of Sunset. “The opportunity to add Christian Haven to our ministry gives us greater scope in our mission to provide quality services to seniors in the spirit of Christian love.”

This new acquisition is accompanied by a project to renovate the lakeside facility. The $4.5 million project is expected to begin this fall and last a few years.

Improvements will include updates to phone systems, technology and elevators, as well as a new HVAC system. Shower rooms and some resident bedrooms will also be renovated to improve bathroom accessibility and functionality.

Sunset Senior Communities provides home care for a variety of health care needs and activity levels.
