Pastor of Flint elevated to Bishop in Church of God in Christ
FLINT, MI – A local pastor and community activist was recently elevated to the post of bishop in The Church of God in Christ.
Christopher E. Martin Sr. was elevated to the office of Bishop of The Church of God in Christ, the largest Pentecostal church in the world with over 6.5 million members, on Monday, December 20.
Presiding Bishop Bishop J. Drew Sheard has officially recommended Pastor Martin to the post, and this has been approved by the General Assembly of the Church of God in Christ, according to a press release from the cathedral faith.
Martin attended Flint Schools, graduated from Flint Southwestern Academy, and graduated from the University of Michigan.
In 1997, Martin was elected to Flint’s Board of Education as the youngest African American ever elected to the board, and served as board chair for two years, the statement said.
Community members and Cathedral of Faith Church members and others will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 21 at Cathedral of Faith Church, 6031 DuPont St., in Flint to attend the celebration of the consecration for the elevation of the now bishop. Christopher E. Martin Sr.
