Sweetgreen opens Michigan’s first location in downtown Birmingham

There’s a new place to grab a salad in downtown Birmingham.

Sweetgreen, a chain serving many fresh foods, recently opened a new location at 167 N. Old Woodward. Occupying the storefront that once housed Grabbagreen, Sweetgreen serves dishes such as salads, bowls and other healthy options.

The restaurant is the first Sweetgreen to open in Michigan. Others planned for the future include locations in Troy and Ann Arbor.

“Sweetgreen has been looking to expand its footprint in the Midwest for some time,” the company said in an email. “When we first started researching where we were going next, Michigan and Birmingham specifically felt like a natural fit because of its growing culinary scene and commitment to providing healthy options for its residents.”

The restaurant changes seasons several times a year, with the chain currently offering its late summer menu. This consists of the Elote bowl, which is made with roasted corn, bell peppers, heirloom tomatoes, shredded cabbage, cilantro, goat cheese, spicy sunflower seeds, tortilla chips, warm quinoa, arugula and salad. jalapeno vinaigrette with cilantro and lime.
